Apatheia not apathy
…it’s a Buddhist thing too
My wife Patti knows I obsess on the news even as I try to follow Christ.
While I do practice prayers of surrender, I nevertheless am often negatively affected by the troubles in the world.
Patti suggested that I need to practice apatheia even as I remain engaged in life around me. What was that Abba Moses of Ethiopia said? “Go into your cell and close the door, and your cell will reach you everything.” Hmm, that does sound very Buddhist now as I think about it.
