Rublev’s Trinity
…it’s Sunday in the USA
I love the wonderful icon known as Rublev’s Trinity.
More than any other religious icon this work of art from the heart of 15th century Eastern Orthodox saint Andrei Rublev represents for me Divine LOVE, Relationship at the Center of all.
In my heart and mind this depiction is “universal,” inviting and embracing all good religion and traditions of man. The character of the individuals is peaceful and harmonious. Their garments and appearance seem to be “gender less” or perhaps to some even more “motherly” than “fatherly.”
Some have suggested that the small square at the front of the table once a held a mirror so that the observer could see themselves at the table. I personally also love the fact that an Oak tree is in the background overlooking the scene…much as Aidan, our 300+ yr old majestic Valley Oak overlooks our family’s home.
And yet, like all art, including music and poetry, each person may find their own truth. I recall Sir Paul McCartney* commenting to Stephen Colbert that he personally loved hearing others interpretation of his music.
Aho. Amené.
*Hoofnote: Because I am Irish ☘️ I cannot resist pointing out that Sir Paul is Irish too. His surname McCartney is a giveaway to his parents (and thus his) ancestry, “Mc” being the Irish whereas “Mac” would be the Scottish (and still not English). 😉 And, like my own, both Catholic and Irish Presbyterian!
Hoofnote 2: It’s Sunday in the USA 🇺🇸 but my heart is still in Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️

Thanks Patrick. I can see what you see past this image, just over its shoulder. It is very Illichian, of the table and the small circle. It is where every way will have to return to and begin the well digging.
Peace.
